Tired
If you work in Corporate America, chances are you haven’t worked with someone who’s undocumented.
But it’s very likely you are working with immigrants. People who may now be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or visa holders, who still carry deep ties to other countries, cultures, and communities.
Many of them have family members who are scared to visit the U.S. because they fear being wrongly detained or denied entry.
Others would love to visit, but don’t speak English and are afraid to walk around alone, in case ICE questions them.
Some of your coworkers want their kids to grow up bilingual, but hesitate to speak another language in public for fear of slurs or stares.
And they’re tired of hearing, “Why are you worried? This doesn’t affect you. You’re here legally.”
They worry that speaking up might put their visa, green card, or newly acquired citizenship at risk. They stay quiet not because they’re unaffected, but because they feel unsafe.
So here’s the ask: just be kind. Create space. Listen. Speak up when it matters.
It’s a tough time for a lot of people, and we’ll only make it through by supporting each other.
We are better together.
